Launch faces WNW into Barnegat bay.

Best wind directions:  Any, however it is not as good when the wind
is out of the east

Fees:  $5* prior to or on Labor day, free after Labor day

Amenities:  restrooms, cold shower, trash barrels, picnic tables.

Hazards:  1) There are low, offshore islands present with sand bars and shallow
water near Sedge island, 2) be aware of people in cigarette boats who never
yield to windsurfers because they are bigger than you, also, 3) on the beach,
dogs on dog leashes are permitted, and thus it is possible that you may find
dog droppings at the launch area

Strategize:  When the wind is out of the North, the low offshore islands
provide for great flat water sailing

Notes:  On hot summer afternoons, sea breezes can kick in.  Eel grass can
get pretty thick.  Therefore, a weed fin is recommended.  This launch is suitable
for beginners.  The best wind is experienced furthest away from shore.  Launch
is about one mile from Island Surf & Sail  You can rig on the deck.  In the
summer, bathers populate the windsurf beach to avoid having to buy a beach
badge.  In the summer, there are power boats in the channel between the
launch area and the main part of the bay

*in 2009, Brant Beach has revived is policy in requiring windsurfers who
launch at Bayview Park before or on Labor day to have a valid Beach Badge.
The fee is $5 for a day, $20 for a week, and $35 for the entire season.  Daily
beach badges can be purchased at the park, daily, weekly and seasonal beach
badges can be purchased across the street outside the Municipal Office Building.
Specifically, the municipal building is at 6805 Long Beach Blvd, and is on 68th
street.  The beach badges are purchased outside the Municipal Office building,
the hours for purchasing being 9-4 on weekdays and 9-3 on weekends.

Additional Notes by Felix Cabrera circa 1990:  "On summer afternoons,
expect 15-20k thermals.  The bay is very shallow (2-4 feet [deep] in may
locations).  Eel grass can get pretty thick.  The better wind is often
further out.  Cautions [include] sand bars and shallow water
near Sedge Islands."
