Betterton (Kent County, MD)

upshot:  2+ hr drive from DC, Betterton is considered an island of
serenity that is surrounded by the big cities.  It can be a quiet
place during the week.  This launch faces NNW, so it is best when
the winds are W, NW, N and perhaps NE. If winds are SW or south,
consider Rock Hall instead. 

FIG. 2 driving directions to launch

Directions:  from DC, cross Bay Bridge and follow U.S. 301 North
about 30 miles.  Watch for signs to Galena.  Take MD 313 to Galena. 
 In Galena, turn onto Rt 213 South (you'll actually be travelling West)
for 5 miles, then onto Rt 298 for 2.6 miles, then Rt 566 West 1.2 miles,
then onto Rt 292 North 3.5 miles to the beach going thru Betterton.

Best Wind Directions:  W, NW, N, NE

Fees:  None

Amenities:  picnic tables, restrooms, trash cans, pay phones

Notes:  100 ft gear carry over sand, may need to park in village on hill as
it appears that parking lot by beach is for boaters.
