From the very same parking lot, one can launch into the Lake or the bay.
As a result, this
launch can be used for most any wind direction. Lake launch faces North,
Bay launch faces SE.
Directions: from Rochester, travel on NY Rt 104 East about 30
miles East of Rochester.
At junction for NY Rt 14, turn left and travel north for 5.3 miles until
reaching
a T intersection with lake road. Turn right at the stop sign and travel
0.3 miles
and turn left at a Citgo gas station onto Bay St Extension. Travel to next
intersection (a few hundred feet) and turn right onto Wickham Blvd. Travel
on Wickham Blvd to an end (0.4 miles) and park in the parking lot.
Alternative Route: Get on Lake road heading east, pass
Pultneyville and continue
into the village of Sodus Point. When NY Rt 14 joins Lake Road (now Bay
St),
follow directions as above
Fees: None
Amenities: Port-o-Potties, picnic tables
Best Wind Directions: for the lake launch, anything absent a
South in it, for
bay launch, S, SE, E
Hazards: For Lake launch, watch out for pier when going out,
for bay launch, many sand bars present, must yield to boat traffic
Regulations: during summer, both lake and bay launches may have
life guarded
swimming present. Must yield to bathers during summer. On the Lake,
one can
usually find room to launch west of the bathers.
