FIG. 1B aerial view of the
launch area
*The name "Trixies" comes from
the name of the marina, Trixies Landing,
just across the road from the launch. The launch is actually within a
portion of Berkeley Island
County Park. This launch is located on the
west side of Barnegat bay,
in the Cedar Beach portion of
Bayville or
Berkeley Township. Trixies is
the name of the marina, and the launch
is not
on their property. However,
the name "Trixies" has become
synonymous with this launch, partly because the
iwindsurf sensor
is located at the marina.
Directions: Exit 77 GSP. If you are traveling southbound,
after paying toll,
turn left
onto Double Trouble Road, then turn left at traffic
light at
T intersection onto County Route
618 E. Continue under GSP.
If you are
traveling Northbound, turn right off of exit ramp
onto C.R. 618 E.
travel about 3.7 miles. During this 3.7 miles, the road will have many
names, such as Pinewald Keswick Rd, Forest Hills Pkwy, Veterans Blvd,
Serpentine
Dr,
Central Pkwy, and then, upon crossing U.S. Rt 9,
Butler Blvd. After
3.7 miles, turn right
at sign for park onto Bayview
Ave. Travel 1 mile and
turn left at sign for park onto
Brennan Concourse.
After 0.4 miles on
Brennan Concourse, turn right into park upon
reaching
Trixies Landing Marina on
your left.

FIG. 2 view of where you turn right into park across from the marina
Best Wind Directions: S, SE, E
Worst Wind Directions: N, NW, SW
Notes: Launch faces SE into mouth of Cedar Creek on the west
side of
Barnegat bay, within Ocean County. The launch is within Berkeley
Island County Park and is on a
street called Brennan Concourse.
Fees: None
Amenities: Trash barrels, restrooms at point, picnic tables at point,
barbeques at point,
drinking fountain at point, pay phone at point.
There
are no showers available. During
summer, may buy drinks
and
snacks from the marina.
Regulations: You are not allowed to launch from
the point at the
end of the road. You must launch from across the street
from the
Trixies Landing Marina. No alcohol. May park on grass.
Hazards: Because you are launching from the widest and the
deepest
portion of
Barnegat bay, the chop can become great (about 2 feet)
out
beyond the point on
a summer thermal. This is greater than at
the other
Barnegat bay launches. Thus,
I have not designated this
launch as a beginner launch. Motor boats may be present.
Notes: Water is shallow (knee deep) in mouth of Cedar Creek.
When you get out
into the bay, the depth can reach 8 feet. There
is little
tidal variation at this launch. In winter, when the prevailing
winds are
NW, the water level drops by one foot as compared to
the summer when the
prevailing wind is southerly.

FIG. 3 view of launch area--windsurfers typically launch from the
small
gap
in the split rail fence to the left because jet-skis launch
from the ramp at
the
right--you may park on the lawn

is
allowed from the point
Additional Notes by Felix Cabrera circa 1990: "Three minutes walk
to
the state
park for showers, food, beach, restrooms, phone.
With
the exception of the shipping
channel, you can stand in most of the
bay.
Water is brown from the Cedar Creek, but not dirty. Bottom
can be muddy
and mucky near the launch area. Clumps of
weed[s]
and grass may be
floating during the warm-water season. Biting flies
can
be a problem
during the season, as can jet-skis and boats on a
nice summer weekend.
Launch is from the river mouth, and there's
protected sailing in the mouth.
The bay is 8 to 14 feet deep with
big chop. Cautions [include] boat
traffic, especially
in the channels.
The main channel is opposite the
launch 100 yards. This is a
popular spot for large sailboats."

FIG. 5 aerial view of the location of the Trixies launch
--the purpose of this
photo is to emphasize not only that
the Trixies launch is on the west side
of
Barnegat bay but
that the Trixies launch is at a very wide portion of the bay
